Riedmueller, Stefan published the artcilePalladium-catalyzed synthesis of N-arylated carbazoles using anilines and cyclic diaryliodonium salts, Recommanded Product: 9-(4-Fluorophenyl)-9H-carbazole, the publication is Beilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry (2013), 1202-1209, database is CAplus and MEDLINE.

A direct synthesis of N-(aryl)carbazole derivatives was carried out by a palladium-catalyzed amination of cyclic iodonium salts with aniline derivatives In particular, electron-poor aniline derivatives reacted smoothly with only 5 mol% of palladium acetate [Pd(OAc)2] as a catalyst to give the desired products in up to 71% yield. Furthermore, the reactivity of cyclic iodonium salts is compared with the reactivity of the corresponding cyclic bromonium analogs. The synthesis of the target compounds was achieved by a reaction of dibenziodolium trifluoromethanesulfonate (I) with amines, such as benzenamine derivatives, tert-butylamine, etc. The reactivity of dibenzobromolium trifluoromethanesulfonate was also investigated. The title compounds thus formed included (3,5-difluorophenyl)-9H-carbazole (II) and related substances.
