An efficient and economical protocol for the synthesis of 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles from various nitriles and sodium azide is reported using nano TiO2/SO2-4 as an effective heterogeneous catalyst. A wide variety of aryl nitriles underwent [3 + 2] cycloaddition to afford tetrazoles in good to excellent yields.
