A phosphorescent ligand was designed and the synthesis of the target compound was achieved by a sequence involving a Gomberg-Bachmann reaction (phenylation) and Suzuki coupling and the product thus obtained (82.03% yield) was confirmed by 1H-NMR, elemental anal., UV-vis absorption and PL emission spectra. The spectral anal. data indicated that the max absorbance displayed a red shift of 56 nm and a Stokes shift of 154 nm.
