The mixture was stirred at 0 C for 30 mm. Then 3,Sdimethylisoxazole4-carbaldehyde (1.5 g, 12 mmol) was added to the mixture. The resulting mixture was stirred for 2 h. Saturated aq. NHCi (10 mL) was added to the mixture and the mixture was extracted with EtOAc (3 x 50 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine (3 x 15 mL) and dried over Na2504. The solvent was evaporated to aresidue which was purified by silica gel column chromatography (30% EtOAc/petroleum ether) to afford the title compound (900 mg, yield 38%) as a yellow oil.
