A base-catalyzed domino reaction for the synthesis of spirocarbocycles I [R = 4-CH3C6H4, 4-ClC6H4, naphth-1-yl, etc.; n = 13̃] in excellent yields using in situ generated chalcones and alkylidene malononitriles [alkyl = cyclohexyl, cyclopentyl, cycloheptyl, etc.] was reported.
