To a suspension of LiAlH4 (75.9 mg, 2.0 mmol) in THF (2 mL) was added at 0-10 C. within 15 minutes a solution of 3-(4-Fluoro-phenyl)-5-methyl-isoxazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (0.50 g, 2.0 mmol) in THF (3 mL) and the resulting solution was allowed to warm to room temperature and subsequently stirred at this temperature for at least one hour. Water (15 mL) was added dropwise and the resulting suspension was then filtered and the filter cake washed with ethyl acetate (15 mL). From the biphasic filtrate the layers were separated and the organic layer was washed with water (1¡Á15 mL). Both combined aqueous layers were back extracted with ethyl acetate (2¡Á15 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4 and subsequently concentrated to dryness (45 C./25 mbar) to afford 0.375 g (90%) of the title compound as a slightly yellow solid with a purity of 100% (by HPLC).
