The condensation products from 4-dialkylamino-1,2-naphthoquinones 2 with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazin (3) are thought to be as chelates 8/9. Therefore arylhydrazones 4/5 and corresponding azocompounds 6/7 can be seen as mesomeric structures. The different colours of 8 and 9 are caused by the alternative enamin-/phenylen-connection with the chelat chromophor. The colour of the arylhydrazones of 4-N-alkyl-arylamino-1,2-naphthoquinones 2b-d are similar to those of 8/9. Those of the phenylogous aminonaphthoquinone 13a are of different colour.
