A CuII complex with azide and a bifunctional ligand bearing carboxylate and isoxazolate groups, namely [Cu(L)(N3)]n (1) (L = 4-isoxazole carboxylate, was synthesized by diffusion methods and characterized by X-ray crystallography. In compound 1, the CuII chains with alternating double (mu-azide)(mu-carboxylate) and the unprecedented triple (mu-azide)(mu-carboxylate)(mu-isoxazolate) bridges are interlinked by the organic spacers into a two-dimensional framework. Magnetic studies demonstrated that ferromagnetic interactions exist between the neighboring CuII ions through the alternating mixed double and triple bridges.
