Seven isoxazole containing Schiff bases 1-7 have been synthesized by the reaction of 5-amino-3,4-dimethylisoxazole and the corresponding active aldehyde. The structures of synthesized compounds have been established using spectroscopic (H-1 and C-13 NMR, FT-IR and MS) and elemental analyses. These compounds have been assayed by the disk diffusion method for antibacterial activity against two Gram-positive and two Gram-negative bacteria from which the minimum inhibitory concentration have been determined. Their molecular properties have also been calculated computationally to corroborate the antibacterial activity. Experimental and computational results indicate that chloro derivative of isoxazole Schiff base 4 is a better antibacterial agent than Amoxicillin.

Design, synthesis, and insecticidal activity of novel isoxazole derivatives containing bisamide moiety

In this study, a total of 31 novel isoxazole derivatives containing bisamide moiety were synthesized and evaluated for their insecticidal activity against Plutella xylostella (P. xylostella). Bioassays indicated that some of the target compounds exhibited good insecticidal activity against P. xylostella. In particular, compound E26 revealed excellent insecticidal activity against P. xylostella, with a 50% lethal concentration (LC50) value of 4.6 mu g/mL, which was even better than those of chlorpyrifos (7.7 mu g/mL), beta-cypermethrin (12.8 mu g/mL), and azadirachtin (10.2 mu g/mL). These results indicated that isoxazole derivatives containing bisamide moiety could be developed as novel and promising insecticides. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first report on the insecticidal activity of this series of novel isoxazole derivatives containing bisamide moiety.

Then, in the series A, the 1,3-H-shift assisted by the 4-propargyloxyisoxazole leads to a final product and the catalyst regeneration. In contrast, in the series B, the elimination of proton by N-phenylbenzaldimine additive results in an iminium cation and dihydropyridine. In the next step, a hydride from dihydropyridine is accepted by the iminium cation to furnish pyridinium and N-benzylidenebenzenaminium species. Subsequently, protodeauration leads to a final product and N-phenylbenzylamine along with the catalyst regeneration.
